Getting traction as a writer is a challenging task for many writers. However, this should not stop you from expressing your thoughts in the written format. If you are wondering why your content is not getting more eyeballs, despite your efforts, you are not alone.

Mostly the reason is not the lack of quality, but marketing. Suppose you start a business and develop a top-notch product but if people don’t know about it, no one is going to come and buy it. Promotion and marketing are essential parts whether you are running a business or writing for the sake of gaining more influence and popularity. I have seen many examples in which an average product sold crazily just because of amazing marketing tactics.

If you are struggling to get more eyeballs, I have put together for you some tips which you can implement in order to grow your audience and get sustainable growth in your business.

Start a website

This might seem a piece of typical and commonplace advice but it is the most important in your writing career. A website not only impacts your credibility but works as a portfolio for showing prospects your writing skills. Your website is like your house on the internet where people pay a visit to you and see your talent in form of writing.

For starters, I recommended starting with Blogger and if you are serious about getting qualified traffic to your writing you can buy a domain and hosting from a reliable hosting service.

In my opinion, I recommend Bluehost and Greengeeks. You can read about them in the following article for a detailed comparison.

Focus on Social Media Marketing

Social media has provided a spectacular opportunity to network and collaborate with others, worldwide. You can take advantage of this technology and start promoting your Medium writing pieces on social media. There are many Facebook groups made especially for Medium writers. You can join them and start sharing your writing there. However, avoid spamming those groups. First, read the guidelines provided by the group admin so that you save yourself from any penalty.

Other than Facebook, another great place is to start sharing your stories on LinkedIn. It is the biggest professional network in the world. You can tap into the potential it has to offer. You can share your Medium story in the form of a post or write a short article and place the Medium story link, at the end, asking people to visit your Medium story for more details.

You can use tools like SocialPilot and MeetEdgar to automate your social media posting work.

The 3rd biggest source of free traffic is Quora. You can identify the related questions people have posted on Quora. Answer them naturally and put your Medium story link asking them to visit it for more details.

Email Marketing

Nothing can be more beneficial than building your own email list. Your email list is your asset that no one can steal. Changing algorithms of Google and Facebook make tactics like SEO and ads unreliable. But your email list is free of these uncertain changes.

Medium provides an in-built feature where people can subscribe to your stories in order to get your stories in their inbox. However, if you want to have emails of people so that you can reach them out whenever you want with a simple broadcast message, you should go for an email service provider.

In my opinion, the best email marketing software for beginners is Mailchimp and Getresponse.

I personally like Getresponse and use it for my email marketing needs as well.

You can read its detailed review by clicking on the link below;

Don’t go for Ads

For beginners, I don’t suggest going for ads. It will be costly and won’t give you a good return on investment. Unless you have a high-ticket product to offer and a proper funnel setup, I advise beginners to stay away from ads.

Consistent content

Medium provides a fair chance for new writers to get traction on its platform by self-promoting the stories. But for this thing to happen, you will need to consistently upload stories and write catchy headlines. When the Medium algorithm sees that many people are clicking your story and spending time reading it, it starts promoting it internally. This is the best promotion you can get on the Medium platform.

Email Signature

Putting your Medium profile link in your email signature will benefit you if you regularly use email for correspondence. Many people get free traffic using this simple tactic.

Final Thoughts

If you try all of these methods, in a month or so, your content will get more eyeballs and you will be more satisfied when the appreciative comments will pour into your stories.
